On Sunday, February 13th at 1pm, many members of the WPPB will head over to the movie theatre (Cineplex @ Devonshire Mall) after band practice to watch the feature documentary “On The Day” by John McDonald. The film chronicles The Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band as it takes a run at the 2008 World Pipe Band Championships.
The Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band was a new Grade 1 pipe band which formed with the aim of competing at the World Pipe Band Championships in 2008. The band consisted of top pipers and drummers from Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Australia and the USA.
The idea to form the band was hatched by a number of the participating competitors when they recognized that there were many excellent pipers and drummers not currently playing with bands and unable to commit to a band on a year round basis that would enjoy the opportunity to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships.
The idea was met with great approval and so the band began to form with many of the worlds top soloists, including eleven Gold Medal winners, coming together for the challenge.

I heard about this video and it coming to select theatres in Feb and so here it is!!
I hope to see it, but not sure if it is just the one day. If I cannot attend I am hoping there will be a video for sale. I have gone on line and read some stories of the band and how it came into being. Good for them.
I have also seen a video shown on (CBC I believe) this past summer (2010) about the SFU pipe band and how they work up to the worlds. It is not for sale from what I am told..pitty. It was produced in conjunction with the SFU pipe band and a video crew from SFU.
Love Windsor Police Pipe band and hope to hear the band live this summer.
