The Windsor Police Grade 3 Band is a dedicated group of talented musicians. As the only band in the organization at the moment, all members are eager to prove themselves both on and off the contest field.
The 2009 season was another ‘building year’ for the organization, which was shaken by the collapse of the former Windsor Police Grade 1 band at the end of 2008, and the unfortunate departure of the Grade 4 Pipe Major. As a result, the Grade 4 band (which won several prizes at their contests in 2008) joined with a few remaining higher grade players to form a new Grade 3 band for 2009. Still, it was a grueling and stressful season and by the end of it everyone in the band was ready to move on to the next step. Before the 2009 contest season even ended, the band was already working on music for the next season and new players were already contacting us to join. The summer of 2010 proved to be a success, with the band winning several top-3 prizes.
Fall 2010 arrived with new and challenging music for the band to learn for 2011. The band welcomed back several returning players as well as new players. The band was very low-key for the 2011 season, but still won the U.S. Open Championship in Alma, MI. Instead of competing all summer long, the band focused on improving all aspects of the band, including playing technique and the music itself, and maintained a vigorous practice schedule. It certainly paid off as the following 2012 season has been our most successful to date! For the upcoming 2013 contest season, the band has grown significantly in size with nearly double the number of players in all 3 corps. Does a bigger band mean a better sounding band? Not necessarily, but it can certainly help!
